Mandala Wangsit Siliwangi Museum is a museum of history of West Java community struggle, especially the struggle of KODAM Siliwangi. The museum preserves many objects used in the past struggle of the young West Javan to oppose various forms of colonialism but maintaining the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia. The museum is located at Jalan Lembong, in front of the Panghegar Hotel and the Telephone Office, which is easily reached by the city transportation of Ledeng-Kebon Kelapa and Dago-Kebon Kalapa.
Mandala wangsit Siliwangi Museum
Mandala Wangsit Siliwangi Museum is a museum of weapons located in Bandung, West Java. The name of Siliwangi itself is a name of a founder of Pajajaran Kingdom whose power was infinite. It is said that he was a wise and prudent kings who was dignified in running his governance. The word of Mandala wangsit comes from the title of a place to store a mandate, advice or counsel from the fighters of the past to next generation through the things they left behind.
The name of the street where the museum is located, Jl. Lembong was taken from the name of Lt. Col. Lembong, a Siliwangi soldier who became a victim in the event of APRA. Before the name was used, the road was called Oude Hospitaalweg.
History of the Museum
The Buildings with the late romanticism architecture was built in 1910-1915 during the Dutch colonial period as the residence of the Dutch officers. After the independence, the building was taken over by Siliwangi troops and used as the headquarters of Siliwangi Division (Militaire Akademie Bandung) in 1949-1950. The building occupies an area of 4176 m2 with a 1674 m2 building.
On May 23, 1966 the building was inaugurated as the Museum of Mandala wangsit Siliwangi or Mandala Wangsit Siliwangi Museum by the Commander of the 8th Siliwangi Division, Colonel Ibrahim Adjie.
In 1979, a new 2-floor building was built and inaugurated on November 10 1980 by the Regional Commander of 15th Siliwangi Maj. Gen. Prasastinya Yoga Sugama and signed by President Soeharto.
Museum Collections
The museum collection includes the objects used by the Siliwangi military command—from the primitive weapons like spears, arrows, Kujang dagger, and Molotov bomb, up to modern weapons such as panzer rail (made in Indonesia), guns, and armoured tank.
Museum Mandala Wangsit merupakan museum sejarah perjuangan masyarakat Jawa Barat, khususnya TNI Angkatan Darat Kodam Siliwangi. Di museum ini tersimpan berbagai benda yang digunakan dalam perjuangan masa lalu oleh pemuda Jawa Barat untuk menentang berbagai macam bentuk penjajahan dan mempertahankan keutuhan Republik Indonesia. Museum ini terletak di Jalan Lembong, berseberangan dengan Hotel Panghegar dan Kantor Telepon, yang mudah dicapai dengan angkutan kota jurusan Ledeng-Kebon Kelapa dan Dago-Kebon Kalapa.
